Taiwan is famous for the making of Oolong tea and green tea. Taiwan was known to Westerners for many centuries as Formosa — short for the Portuguese Ilha Formosa, or "beautiful island." Tea grown in Taiwan is often identified by that name. In Taiwan most people drink tea, and tea is not only a drink, but also a culture. Many people visit one of the numerous traditional teahouses or "tea-art" shops, located all over Taiwan.
